Museum Roots Run Deep

I vividly remember accepting the position at the Woodson Art Museum. It was in July 2005, following my second interview; Kathy offered me the curator of education position and I enthusiastically accepted. I made it to the bottom of Franklin Street, before pulling over to call my mom, grandma, and Nick. I cried because I was that happy!

Today I’m packing up my office and my life (quite honestly). Nick accepted a position in Memphis, Tennessee in February. This change is bittersweet; it’s a great opportunity for our family, but it also means leaving Wausau and, most important, saying goodbye to this Museum.

Anyone who knows me, knows how much I LOVE what I do, how I’m not one to keep things to myself, and how I’m an ugly crier.

I can’t begin to articulate how much this place and the people who work and volunteer here have meant to me.

At a recent docent sendoff, I said I was “overwhelmed by the collective intelligence of the people involved at the Woodson Art Museum.” That’s true, however, I should expand that to include Museum visitors, residents of north central Wisconsin, and artists (yes, Birds in Art artists – all of you).

I’ll miss being a part of it all. The Woodson Art Museum is such a dynamic place filled with critical, creative, connected people and art. Know that I’ll become the Woodson’s biggest advocate south of the Mason-Dixon Line.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of this place. It’s been my pleasure.

Erin Narloch, signing off.

  1. Erin, you shall be missed! It has been a terrific joy to get to know you over the last few years, especially during my stay in 2008. I have no doubt that, wherever you wind up working, you will continue to be a major force of influence and creative joy. Best to you, Nick and the little guy.
